Peer Legal Support Advocates are not licensed attorneys.
Unless a particular individual is separately and clearly identified by LynxConnect as a licensed attorney whose professional credentials have been verified, the individuals participating in the LynxConnect Peer Legal Support Advocates program are not lawyers, attorneys, legal representatives, public defenders, paralegals acting under attorney supervision, or members of a law firm.
Peer Legal Support Advocates are individuals who may have developed knowledge, experience, or familiarity with legal systems through personal experience with the justice system, independent legal research, self-education, advocacy work, assistance provided to peers, familiarity with publicly available statutes, regulations, court rules, cases, forms, and legal resources, or experience organizing legal documents or researching general legal topics.
A person's participation as a Peer Legal Support Advocate does not mean that the person has attended law school, passed a bar examination, been admitted to practice law, received a professional legal certification, or been approved by a court or government agency.
The word “Advocate” is used to describe a peer-support and educational role only. It does not mean attorney, legal counsel, authorized legal representative, or licensed legal professional.
1. Educational and Informational Purposes Only
The LynxConnect Peer Legal Support Advocates program is designed solely to provide:
- General legal information;
- Educational materials;
- Publicly available legal resources;
- Peer-to-peer support;
- General legal research assistance;
- Help locating statutes, court rules, cases, forms, agencies, and legal-service organizations;
- Help understanding general legal terminology and procedures;
- General organizational support for documents and case-related information;
- Shared personal experiences;
- Referrals to licensed attorneys, legal-aid organizations, public defender offices, government agencies, or other qualified resources.
Nothing provided through LynxConnect or by a Peer Legal Support Advocate constitutes legal advice.
2. Peer Legal Support Advocates Are Not Lawyers
Peer Legal Support Advocates are not permitted to present themselves as licensed attorneys or authorized legal representatives, and do not have authority through LynxConnect to:
- Practice law or provide individualized legal advice;
- Act as legal counsel or represent another person in court;
- Appear in court, communicate with a court, or negotiate legal matters on another person's behalf;
- Enter into settlements or plea agreements on another person's behalf;
- Make legal decisions for another person or guarantee/predict the result of a legal matter;
- Tell a user what legal action the user must take, or direct a user to accept or reject a plea offer, settlement, waiver, agreement, or legal strategy;
- Claim they can obtain a particular outcome or hold themselves out as members of a law firm;
- Use the title “attorney,” “lawyer,” “counsel,” or another title that falsely suggests professional legal licensure;
- Replace a licensed attorney.
3. Permitted Peer-Support Activities
Subject to LynxConnect policies and applicable law, advocates may provide general assistance such as:
- Explaining the general meaning of legal words or phrases;
- Helping users locate publicly available laws, forms, and legal resources;
- Explaining general court structures and procedural stages;
- Sharing general legal-research methods;
- Helping users create a timeline or organize records;
- Helping users identify questions they may wish to ask a licensed attorney;
- Directing users to court websites, government agencies, legal-aid providers, bar associations, public defender offices, nonprofit organizations, or attorney-referral services;
- Sharing personal experiences, clearly identified as personal and not professional legal advice;
- Offering general encouragement and peer support.
Any explanation must remain general and educational, not a professional legal opinion or a recommendation about what a particular person should do in a specific case.
4. Prohibited Activities
Advocates may not use LynxConnect to tell a user what legal strategy to choose; advise a user to file or not file a particular motion, appeal, petition, lawsuit, claim, or application; advise a user to plead guilty or not guilty; advise a user to accept or reject a plea offer or settlement; interpret the law as definitively applied to a user's individual facts; tell a user they will win or lose; guarantee dismissal, reversal, release, sentence reduction, compensation, immigration status, custody, housing, benefits, or any other outcome; sign a document as another person's attorney; contact courts, prosecutors, opposing counsel, or agencies while claiming to represent a user; misrepresent professional qualifications; request or accept payment for supposed attorney services; create the impression that LynxConnect is a law firm or that the user is a legal client; engage in conduct that may constitute the unauthorized practice of law; encourage a user to ignore an attorney, court order, filing requirement, or legal deadline; instruct a user to conceal, destroy, alter, fabricate, or misrepresent evidence; help plan unlawful conduct; or assist with harassment, retaliation, witness intimidation, fraud, or evasion of lawful authority.
LynxConnect may suspend or permanently remove any advocate who violates these restrictions.
5. No Attorney-Client Relationship
Use of LynxConnect, including communications with Peer Legal Support Advocates, does not create an attorney-client relationship. No attorney-client relationship is created by creating an account; entering the Peer Legal Support section; sending or receiving a message; uploading or discussing documents; participating in a chat, call, video session, group, forum, or community; receiving educational materials or research assistance; purchasing a membership; paying a platform, subscription, administrative, technology, research-support, or peer-support fee; receiving an AI-generated response; receiving a referral; or communicating with LynxConnect staff, volunteers, contractors, moderators, or advocates.
LynxConnect is not a law firm and does not represent users in legal proceedings.
6. Communications Are Not Attorney-Client Privileged
Because advocates are not acting as users' attorneys, attorney-client privilege and attorney work-product protection generally do not apply. Messages may not receive the confidentiality protections that apply between a licensed attorney and client, and information may be stored, reviewed, moderated, processed, or disclosed as described in LynxConnect's Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, safety policies, or as required by law.
Users should exercise caution before sharing Social Security numbers, full dates of birth, financial-account information, passwords or access codes, medical records, information about minors, confidential attorney communications, sealed records, cooperation agreements, witness-identifying information, information restricted by a protective order, unredacted discovery, or any information that could create a safety or security risk. When appropriate, remove or cover sensitive information before uploading.
7. No Guarantee of Qualifications or Expertise
Unless LynxConnect expressly states otherwise in writing, LynxConnect does not certify any advocate as an attorney or as legally qualified to provide professional legal services. A badge is not a law license, a rating is not a professional endorsement, experience does not guarantee accuracy, completion of LynxConnect training does not authorize the practice of law, and personal success in a legal matter does not guarantee the same approach is appropriate for another person. Users are responsible for evaluating the source and reliability of information received.
8. Laws Differ by Location and Change Over Time
Laws, regulations, court rules, filing requirements, deadlines, forms, policies, and procedures vary by country, state, territory, county, court, agency, correctional facility, type of case, procedural stage, and individual circumstances, and may change without notice. Information accurate in one jurisdiction or year may not be accurate in another. Users must independently verify all information through current official sources or a licensed attorney qualified in the appropriate jurisdiction.
9. No Guarantee of Accuracy, Completeness, or Results
LynxConnect does not guarantee that information provided through the platform is correct, complete, current, applicable, accepted by a court or agency, free from errors, sufficient to protect a user's rights, suitable for filing, or capable of producing a particular result. No advocate may guarantee release from custody, reversal, dismissal, a new trial, sentence reduction, parole, resentencing, success on appeal, post-conviction relief, immigration relief, housing relief, custody or visitation, financial recovery, benefits, or any other outcome. Past results, personal experiences, ratings, testimonials, or success stories do not guarantee future results.
10. Documents, Forms, Templates and Research Materials
Any sample document, form, letter, checklist, template, outline, research result, case citation, summary, or educational material is offered for general informational purposes only. Such materials may not be suitable for a user's matter, may not satisfy specific court or agency rules, may be incomplete or outdated, and must be independently reviewed before use. Providing a template or organizing information does not mean LynxConnect or an advocate has approved the document for filing. Users are solely responsible for reviewing, signing, filing, serving, and verifying any document they choose to use, and should whenever possible have a licensed attorney review legal documents before submission.
11. Court Deadlines and Time-Sensitive Matters
LynxConnect and its advocates are not responsible for calculating, tracking, extending, preserving, or meeting legal deadlines, including appeal deadlines, statutes of limitation, motion or filing deadlines, hearing dates, court appearances, response deadlines, administrative, immigration, parole, grievance, or facility deadlines, or service requirements. Missing a legal deadline may cause serious and permanent harm. A user with an approaching deadline should immediately contact a licensed attorney, court clerk, assigned counsel, public defender, legal-aid provider, or relevant government agency.
12. AI-Generated Information
LynxConnect may use artificial intelligence to provide general educational information, answer navigation questions, summarize user-provided material, locate resources, explain terminology, or assist with organization. AI-generated information is not produced by a licensed attorney unless separately reviewed and approved by one, does not constitute legal advice, and may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or misleading. Users must not rely exclusively on an AI-generated response when making a legal decision or submitting a legal document. The AI assistant should not be treated as a lawyer, law firm, court employee, government representative, or legal authority.
13. Memberships, Fees and Payments
Payment for a LynxConnect membership, platform feature, educational resource, technology service, research-support service, document-organization service, or peer-support interaction does not create an attorney-client relationship. Any fee is not an attorney's fee unless the service is separately provided by a licensed attorney whose identity and licensing status are clearly disclosed, a separate attorney-client agreement is executed where required, and the legal service is provided in compliance with applicable law and professional rules. Advocates may not describe themselves as attorneys or charge users for attorney representation through this program. No payment guarantees a legal result.
14. User Responsibility and Independent Decision-Making
Users remain solely responsible for all decisions and actions involving their legal matters, including guilty pleas, plea offers, trials, appeals, post-conviction motions, sentence challenges, parole, probation, immigration, family court, custody, child support, housing, employment, benefits, civil claims, settlements, contracts, waivers, releases, court filings, testimony, cooperation with law enforcement, and surrendering or preserving legal rights. Before taking or declining legal action, users should consult a licensed attorney regarding their specific circumstances.
15. Licensed Attorneys and Professional Referrals
Users who require legal advice, representation, professional document preparation, or a legal opinion should contact a licensed attorney authorized to practice in the relevant jurisdiction. LynxConnect may provide links or referrals to public defender offices, assigned counsel programs, legal-aid organizations, nonprofit legal-service organizations, bar association referral services, pro bono programs, government agencies, court help centers, and licensed attorneys. A referral does not guarantee that a provider will accept a matter, provide free services, reach a particular conclusion, or achieve a particular outcome. Unless expressly stated, LynxConnect does not control or assume responsibility for independent third-party providers.
16. Emergencies and Urgent Legal Matters
LynxConnect is not an emergency service. Users should not rely on LynxConnect for immediate assistance involving an arrest, an active police encounter, an imminent court appearance, an immediate filing deadline, threats of violence, domestic violence, child abuse or endangerment, suicide or self-harm, medical emergencies, deportation or removal proceedings, an imminent eviction, a protective-order emergency, missing persons, escape/contraband/facility-security concerns, or any situation requiring immediate professional intervention.
In an emergency, contact 911 or the appropriate local emergency service. For urgent legal matters, contact a licensed attorney, assigned counsel, public defender, court clerk, legal-aid organization, or relevant government agency immediately.
17. Safety, Honesty and Lawful Use
Users and advocates must use LynxConnect lawfully and honestly. The service may not be used to fabricate, alter, or destroy evidence; coach false testimony; intimidate or improperly influence witnesses; evade lawful court orders; commit fraud; harass another person; facilitate violence; conceal unlawful conduct; circumvent correctional-facility rules; transmit prohibited materials; or impersonate an attorney, court official, law-enforcement officer, or government employee. LynxConnect may restrict, suspend, report, or terminate activity that violates its policies or applicable law.
18. Reporting Misrepresentation or Misconduct
Users should immediately report any advocate who claims to be a licensed attorney without verification, promises a guaranteed legal result, requests payment outside approved LynxConnect systems or for supposed attorney representation, pressures a user to follow a specific legal strategy, requests highly sensitive information without a legitimate reason, threatens, harasses, exploits, or manipulates a user, encourages illegal activity, attempts to establish an undisclosed personal, financial, or romantic arrangement, or violates LynxConnect policies. Reports may be submitted through Report Profile, Report Message, or Contact LynxConnect Support.
19. Limitation of Responsibility
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LynxConnect and its owners, officers, directors, employees, contractors, volunteers, moderators, affiliates, technology providers, AI providers, and advocates are not responsible for losses or damages arising from reliance on peer-provided or AI-generated information; inaccurate or incomplete information; missed deadlines; rejected filings; court decisions; legal strategies; user or third-party conduct; interruptions or technical failures; unauthorized disclosure of information by another user; or a user's failure to obtain licensed legal counsel. Nothing in this section is intended to waive a right or responsibility that cannot lawfully be waived.
